6.2.1 Understand the relevant and appropriate sources of professional learning for teachers
The TAS/VA department at Bishop Tyrrell purchased their first laser cutting machine the week I started my practicum. I was fortunate enough to sit in on a training day run by the company who sell the machine.
Having this training was invaluable for my personal development as a teacher in training. I will not only be able to incorporate this into some of my upcoming design and technology lessons over the next couple of weeks but can transfer these skills to other schools when the time arises. There was a lot of experimenting with different materials such as paper, plastics and timber which is excellent for the TAS and VA departments as they use mixed materials regularly.
This was an exciting time for the teachers at the school as it was evident to see how having the laser cutter available to them increased their options for new and exciting units of work.
